We have confirmed that lines for PPD files which is required to use the inkjet printer drivers for LSB are not listed in the CUPS Web interface after install "Epson Inkjet Printer Driver (ESC/P) for Linux" or "Epson Inkjet Printer Driver (ESC/P-R) for Linux" on openSUSE. If an appropriate PPD file is not selected for this problem, printers may not print properly.

We have confirmed this problem using the following environment:

  • openSUSE 11.4
  • epson-inkjet-printer-stylus-photo-px810fw-series-1.0.0-1lsb3.2.i486.rpm

This may be caused by missing the required directory (/usr/share/ppd/) to install the driver.

This can be avoided by the following procedure:

  1. Open a terminal window and perform the following command to have a root privilege:

    $ su -

    • If an inkjet printer driver for LSB has been installed, uninstall it referring to its manual.
  2. Create a symbolic link as root:

    # ln -s /usr/share/cups/model /usr/share/ppd

  3. Install an inkjet printer driver for LSB referring to its manual.
  4. Register a printer n the CUPS Web interface (http://localhost:631/).
    • Appropriate PPD files are listed and strings such as "Seiko Epson Corporation LSB 3.2" and "epson-inkjet-printer" are displayed in Model as below:
